The Hague
The oldest station in the Hague is Den Hollands Spoor.Den Haag Centraale is the largest station in the Hague, 10 minutes from the city centre. It operates Intercity, Sneltrain, Stoptrain, Randstadrail and Thalys (for Eurostar travellers) services.
Trains between St Pancras International and the Hague have average journey times of 4 hours, 11 minutes; the route passes throuh Lille, Brussels and Rotterdam. High speed rail to the Netherlands is popular because it is even more convenient and efficient to travel. Summer is a good time for tickets to the Hague, as tourists can visit the nearby beach resorts.
The Hague is most famous for banking, trading and its industries. Its main economic input is the government, where it is the seat and administrative capital of the Netherlands. It developed around a 13th century palace, and has a current population of over 470000. The Hague is not only the current residence of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, but also the seat of the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the UN War Crimes Tribunal. It is the third largest city within the Netherlands, and was intended as the neutral capital of the world.
