Rotterdam
There are 7 main stations in Rotterdam, which are: Zuid, Alexander, Blaak, Lombardijen, Noord, Stadion and Rotterdam Centraal. The Central station has connections via Intercity, Sneltrain, Stoptrain, Nachtnet, Sprinter and Thalys lines, making it accessible for Eurostar travellers. Trains between St Pancras and Rotterdam run around 20 times a day.
Eurostar trains between St Pancras International and Rotterdam have average journey times of 3 hours, 41 minutes; the route passes throuh Lille and Brussels. High speed rail to the Netherlands is popular because it is even more convenient and efficient to travel. Rotterdam is ideal for tourists to book tickets in late spring and early summer, when the weather will show the renowned architecture to best advantage.
Rotterdam is home to the largest harbour in Europe, and over 580000 inhabitants. It is a commercial city known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’ (because of its unique and modern architecture) that was severely damaged by Nazi invasion during the Second World War and had to be extensively rebuilt. It was first occupied by the French between the 18th and 19th centuries. The river Maas flows right through the city centre, under the world-famous Erasmus bridge.
